I wrote a chaconne as an assignment in my composition class at Juilliard. There are disagreements about the basic characteristics but here's my point for today:

This compositional exercise reminded me of the beauty of a descending bass line, and how nice it can be to re-harmonize using simply first and second inversion chords. Here in todays piece I liked moving randomly to different keys to change the color some. This can be a beautiful seed idea for writing a song I think.
